If You're Serious About Your Writing, You Need A Proofreader

1. Rates: My current rate is $25/hr. When a client contacts me I give a quote based on number of pages and complexity of the project.

2. Proofing vs. Editing: Proofing (see My Process) is not the same as editing. I do both services, however, my primary focus is proofreading. Editing is a much deeper process and therefore takes more time and, thus, costs more.  Please Note: I can proof your document in a PDF file, a Microsoft Word file or a Google Doc file. The choice is up to you.

3. Client Contact: Communication is everything. I always want to make sure I’m on the same page as the client. I encourage open lines of communication at all times.

4. Why Freelancing? As a child, my father often said to me, “I could never work for somebody else. I have to be my own boss.” That seed well and truly took hold in my child’s impressionable mind.

Being self-employed requires a lot of hard work, e.g. self-discipline, being responsible, having follow through, setting high work standards and living by them. My parents modeled for me what being a hard worker entails. They modeled for me what it is to have an unparalleled work ethic. And I am proud of that legacy.

5. My Guiding Principle: I believe in respect and kindness towards everything in this world – people, animals, and the environment. The rise of the Internet has birthed the phenomena of unfettered online cruelty and criticism. It can get pretty viscous. Just because we have freedom of speech doesn’t mean we should stop responsibly editing ourselves before we speak, draft and send an email or post a comment online.

I’ve made a conscious, deliberate commitment to counter that kind of behavior with what I call My Revenge of Kindness. I fully intend to relentlessly flood the world with unfettered kindness.  It seems to me that it’s so much easier to be kind than unkind.
